CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Gema is responsible for the Employment and Social Security Law Department of Rivero & Gustafson and has extensive experience in practicing Employment Law and in all matters concerning Human Resources. Gema has been part of the firm since 2006.

She began her professional career as an employment lawyer in the law firms Abogados GCV & Asociados and Bufete de Abogados Feliú in Madrid, advising clients in employment, civil and administrative procedures throughout Spain.

While continuing her career in Rivero & Gustafson, where she has progressed from junior lawyer to head of department, Gema has dealt with all kinds of issues both individual and collective within the framework of the employment relationship, and advises her clients on recruitment, salary, collective agreements, senior management, substantial modifications of employment terms and conditions, contract terminations and restructurings, among other matters. Gema has extensive, in-depth knowledge in the fields of dismissal, wage claims, disciplinary records, industrial accidents, as well as in collective bargaining, ERTEs, disapplication of collective agreements and collective contract changes. Gema represents companies, workers, and senior managers in administrative and judicial proceedings.

Additionally, as an employment expert, Gema performs with her team due diligence processes and audits of all aspects relating to employment regulations: recruitment, calculation of compensation, settlements, occupational risk prevention, and social security contributions.

Gema’s clients come from a wide range of sectors – from construction, telecoms and leisure to financial services, insurance, and public entities.

EDUCATION

Gema holds a degree in Law (2003) from the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid, and a Postgraduate Degree in Employment Law from the Complutense University of Madrid (2004).

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION

Gema works in Spanish and English. She frequently attends Aranzadi legal forums on Employment Law. She is the author of several articles and a forum lecturer in her specialist field.

Apart from being a consummate professional, Gema is committed and enthusiastic, she volunteers for an NGO for people with mental disabilities, has an expert’s certificate in sign language and is also fond of several sports.
